History & Business Philosophy

Fowler Flemister Concrete has a history in its name dating back to the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1908 Fowler-Flemister Coal Company was doing business in Milledgeville. The business evolved over the years selling products that technology and the times dictated. Building materials were added to the inventory of coal and eventually ready mix concrete was added.  In December of 1966 John A. “Gus” Pursley, Jr. and Alta M. “Sis” Ross purchased the ready mix branch of the building material business from Walter Williams, Jr.  Plants in Milledgeville and Eatonton comprised the new company. In 1977 shortly before her retirement, Mrs. Ross sold her interest to Gus Pursley, Jr. In 1986 plants in Greensboro and Madison were purchased from Mr. Thomas Hodges and were added to the growing enterprise. This purchase greatly increased the company’s presence in the rapidly growing market on Lake Oconee. In 1996 land was purchased in Monticello and a new plant was constructed on that site. This expansion brought the total number of plants to five and completed a full circle geographically of plants to serve the area.

John A “Gus” Pursley Jr.. serves the company as CEO and his son John A “Gus” Pursley III, serves as its President.  Linda Hammett fills the duties as Secretary-Treasurer,Kenneth Funderburke is Vice-President of Operations and Alan Deariso is Vice-President of Sales/Technical Services.  Employees from the areas served by Fowler Flemister represent experienced, conscientious management and knowledgeable, highly trained drivers.
